This Is What Making Room for Hope to Grow Looks Like in Action

When Alexis lost her son’s father to gun violence just after giving birth, she found herself in a shelter with a newborn baby and an impossible question: How do I move forward from here?

“Before I found Pathways, I was alone,” Alexis shares. “I didn’t know what I was going to do, to be completely honest. He was just going to be with me every day, 24 hours a day.”

But at two months old, Alexis’s son entered our Early Learning Center—and everything changed. With safe, reliable childcare, Alexis could focus on finding employment and rebuilding stability. Through our parenting classes, she learned new approaches to calm parenting and gained confidence in her ability to guide her son through difficult times.

“I love learning how I can be a better mom,” she says. “They taught me how to react to good times and bad times.””

Today, Alexis is working and building the future she wants for her family. Her son is thriving in our care, growing stronger every day.
